You either prove your case inĀ Debt Recovery and go the distance up to a judgment from a court trial, or you can have a default judgment.
By and large, the kind of folks you might be dealing with in Debt Recovery, the debtors, are the type that if they don’t care to the point where they’re not paying you what they owe you, they’re not going to care much about a lawsuit. So there’s a good chance you would proceed straight to default.
Ability to collect a judgment: this is, I think, the $64,000 question. Some folks like to pursue these cases on principle. Maybe it’s a personal relationship you have with a person who owes you money, and you’re not backing down. You don’t care that they’re penniless. You don’t care that they’re renters.
